How we count sources

Independent origins, not repeat sightings.

We count independent origins, not sightings. A business's own website is one origin however many of its pages we read. We never tell you where a value came from, only how many independent places agree.

On a record, the How we know panel shows each field with a bar. The more independent places agree, the fuller the bar. It also says when we last checked.

A business's own site can back up a register, but it can't back itself up. That's why one website, however thorough, never makes a value Proven on its own.
